As sleep consumes nearly half of our lives, it is crucial to prioritize quality rest, and maintaining proper posture plays a vital role in achieving it. The Cervical Pillow designed for Dreamcare, which enables you to correct the positioning of your neck, back, and legs.
Dreamcare, a renowned brand specializing in premium bedding products such as bed sheets and pillows, has approached me with an exciting opportunity to develop a groundbreaking product.
They have enlisted my expertise to create a new and innovative Cervical Pillow made from memory foam. This exceptional product will mark the beginning of a new range of offerings for the brand, focusing on medical, posture, and orthopedic solutions. With its ergonomic design and supportive properties, this pillow aims to provide unparalleled comfort and promote proper spinal alignment.
Dreamcare’s venture into the realm of medical-grade products signifies their commitment to enhancing the well-being and sleep quality of their customers.
Competitors on Amazon are offering a wide variety of cervical pillows with different features such as various positions, softness levels, edges, and even arm rests. Customers now have a range of options to choose from, allowing them to find the correct cervical pillow that suits their specific needs and provides good comfort during sleep. Designing a new cervical pillow was a really good challenge on how to stand out from competitors and provide new innovative features on this marlet.
Maintaining a straight spinal alignment and proper posture during sleep is of utmost importance for complete recovery and to avoid pain. When we lie down to rest, our spine should be aligned in a neutral position, allowing the natural curves to be supported adequately. A straight spinal alignment minimizes stress on the muscles, ligaments, and joints, facilitating proper blood circulation and preventing discomfort or pain upon waking up. When the spine is misaligned during sleep, it can lead to muscle strain, tension, and even spinal misalignment over time. This can contribute to various issues, including back pain, neck pain, and stiffness.
Adding a leg rest to the pillow permits us to propose an all in 1 product to correct your sleeping posture. Also, It will be possible to use the pillow combined with the leg rest as a lumbar support when the user is seated. To develop the concept further, I decided to change the shape of the main pillow. I added a neck way/support, arm supports on the sides for stomach sleepers and a sharper edge on top of the white area for people who prefer more firm foam.
After defining the final concept, I modelled the pillow in 3D to prepare it for tooling. the 3D stage was intense with a lot of curves to create. Adjustments were done to the final drawing to enhance the neck and head parts. Moreover, I kept the idea of a butterfly look by defining the shapes of the fabric cover and where its parts will be stitched.
For this pillow, we used Memory Foam created from Bamboo. After different density tests, we decided to go for a mid-soft foam in 45HA to give a softer feel than the current 50D pillow foams on the market. For its cover, we used a Smooth Waffle Embossed Fabric (blue) + Airy Mesh 4D (white), combining comfort and breathability. For the colours, we decide to emphasize the butterfly shape of the pillow and stay neutral at the same time by using a white and a baby blue colour: Pantone 2389. specific to medicine and relaxation.
After opening moulds with the supplier, we made different sample stages to better define the shape, cover, density and comfort of the product. We managed to create a great pillow, outstanding from competitors and proposing new features.
Final sample (2) of the Dreamcare Cervical Pillow, after 3 sample rounds. Checking of the different features by its use every night for 30 days. The product is comfortable and allows you to have better sleep without neck and back pains the day after. Moreover, the cover is really easy to remove and clean in the washing machine.
