Home Hero Food Scale: Innovation in Kitchen Weighing

Home Hero is a trusted brand offering high-quality kitchen utensils online. Initially known for its knife kits, it has expanded into sharpeners, can openers, thermometers, and cutting boards. To strengthen its presence, Home Hero (acquired by Branded) developed the Home Hero Food Scale, a digital kitchen scale designed for precision and convenience.

Advanced Features for Superior Performance

The Home Hero Food Scale surpasses competitors with a 15kg capacity, far exceeding the typical 10kg or 5kg limits. It features a removable display, preventing shadows from large containers and ensuring clear, precise measurements. This innovation enhances usability and accuracy in everyday cooking.

A Rigorous Development Process

Creating this scale required extensive effort. The process involved seven versions, four sampling stages, and one year of development. Overcoming challenges in sensor positioning, coding, and data transmission ensured accurate, reliable performance.

After continuous refinement, the Scale launched on Amazon in May 2023, setting a new benchmark for kitchen innovation.

IDEATION & VALIDATION

In the fast pace process of creating a product for e-commerce, I sketched propositions until finding the one with a key differentiation. Once stronger concepts were defined, I validated the best design with the tool "Pickfu" by exchanging with a US-based customer audience.

DEVELOPMENT AND FINAL PRODUCT

Following the in house validation of the concept, I worked with our suppliers based in China to quote the proposed concept and define the technology and the inner parts. The concept went through different versions and sampling stages to get the final product.

Developing the Food Scale for Home Hero was a long team effort with more than 7 versions, 4 sampling stages and 1 year to finish the product end to end and bring it to market. Including new features like a wireless display and a weighing capacity of 15kg was more challenging in coding, sensor positioning and also data transmissions.

HOW IT WORKS

The main and innovative feature of the Home Hero Food is its wireless and removable display. It allows the user to use the display independently from the scale body and avoids any shadowing on the screen when weighing in big containers.

Moreover, the display can be used as a timer to control all the steps of your recipes. By clicking on Time, the user can set a timer up to 1h40. The display is really easy to remove from the scale body and is fully tactile.

This removable display brings novelty to this market and is fully autonomous by using its batteries and receiving data from the scale body by frequencies (radio and Bluetooth)
